The British School Warsaw

The British School was established in 1992 by Nord Anglia Education in partnership with Mrs. Iwona Thomas. NAE is the UK`s leading provider of education in the independent sector. The British School, Warsaw was the first NAE International School and it opened its doors in 1992 with a total of 35 pupils. NAE now has international schools in citites around the world, including Budapest, Prague, Bratislava and Shanghai.

At The British School, Warsaw we inspire our students to achieve the highest academic standard in all that they do, providing a premium education in Poland within a safe, happy and supportive environment. The key to this is our High Performance Learning programme, through which your child learns the importance of practice, perseverance and the determination to succeed.

Our students achieve well above average world scores in examinations at IGCSE and IB. Our Highest Quality Learning approach means that every child reaches their maximum potential.

Our Aims

The British School aims to provide a high quality British-style education characterised by:
  • The provision of the English National Curriculum enhanced to meet the needs of international and local students and offering an insight into the local culture.
  • High quality teaching provided by committed British, International and local staff.
  • A broad personal development of students that encourages independence, confidence, tolerance, good manners and respect.
  • A recognition of the school-parent partnership in the successful education of their children.
  • A recognition that every student is an individual and we will provide an environment to help realise their academic and other potential, preparing them for their chosen continued education.

Your child will experience the best curriculum programme enhancing their chances of entering top universities in the World.
Clubs

There are a variety of after school activities available to students. These are not compulsory; however they provide an excellent opportunity for students to experience and take part in something fun and stimulating. Some of the after school activities incur an additional cost as these usually involve specialist personnel and/or equipment. A list of the clubs will be printed and posted on the website at the start of each term. Students/ Parents may sign up for these activities subject to availability.

Technology

Technology is one of the tools for learning used by our experienced teachers to ensure that every child at The British School, Warsaw knows how and when to use technology to develop their understanding of the world. We are very fortunate to have a wonderful set of students from a wide range of nationalities. Our school curriculum is designed to generate High Performance Learning across all areas of the school. We equip our students to develop the right values, attitudes and aptitudes to study. Part of this involves the careful use of technology including video, computers and graphic calculators.

In addition to use in school, students can extend their learning through our school Moodle, an on-line learning community. They can also access the Global Classroom, a unique feature of being a member of the Nord Anglia Educaiton family of schools.

Facilities for Learning

The most important resource at The British School, Warsaw is the teachers who make sure that every child learns to the best of their ability. In addition to this, we need to have the right facilities and resources to support that process. The British School, Warsaw is located on two sites. Our Early Years Centre is located in Stary Mokotów district and caters for children from age 2 ½ until aged 7.Our Early Years Centre occupies a purpose built facility on ul. Dabrowskiego, where the light and spacious accommodation is surrounded by a large playground, garden and wooded area. Students from Year 2 up to age 18 attend our large Limanowskiego campus located in Sadyba, near Wilanów district. Both sites have easy access to Warsaw city centre and are located in popular residential areas.

Our Primary and Secondary schools are located together on ul. Limanowskiego.
Our main site is well-equipped and offers first class facilities for:
  • academic work including Primary and Secondary Libraries
  • IB Learning Centre for senior students
  • indoor and outdoor play facilities
  • sports halls
  • art rooms
  • music technology suite, music rooms and practice rooms
  • science laboratories
  • ICT suites and mobile computer facilities, linked to a fully functional wireless (wi-fi) system across the school

Each subject of the secondary and International Baccalaureate curriculum has its own base, with subject zones replacing the Year Zones of the Primary school.

Our students develop and learn in a secure and caring environment. They are provided with opportunities to succeed and achieve their dreams.

In our school, we celebrate children’s outstanding achievements, both inside and outside the school curriculum. House points, positive feedback, letters or phone calls home, certificates or a Commendation from the Principal are all ways to celebrate success. Our teachers support student success by:
  • creating a positive climate with realistic expectations
  • emphasising the importance of being valued as an individual within the group
  • promoting, through example, honesty, respect and courtesy
  • providing a caring and effective learning environment
  • encouraging relationships based on kindness, respect and understanding of the needs of others
  • ensurin fair treatment for all regardless of age, gender, race and ability
  • showing appreciation of the efforts and contribution from all students
